This post is part of a series designed to help student loan borrowers (and anybody else!) increase their income through new side hustles.
Many Americans love side hustles, and for good reason. They can be fun, engaging, and you can make money. But with enough advanced planning, you can do one better by generating passive income and earning money off of work you do just one time.
Wrapify is a company that will pay you for driving your car to the places you already do in exchange for letting them wrap your car in an advertisement(s). And while it may seem like a crazy idea, hundreds of thousands of Americans would consider it - and maybe you would too.
This article will cover making money with Wrapify.

What is car advertising?
Wrapify is just one of a few businesses that match companies looking to advertise with drivers looking to make a little extra money. Essentially, drivers rent out space on their vehicles by allowing companies to showcase their logos, slogans, and other promotional materials on it.
You then move on with your life, drive the places you drive, and get paid for allowing the company to advertise on your vehicle. In addition to Wrapify, you may consider other car advertising apps, like Carvertise.
Wrapify requirements for drivers
Wrapify does have a number of requirements that your car, as well as you, must adhere to. And while they aren't anything earth-shattering, they are still something you should be aware of. For example, you'll need to be 21 years old. You'll also need to:
Have a bank account to receive your payments
Drive a car in good condition (2010 or newer) - you can drive a sedan, coupe, SUV, minivan, or SUV
Pass a background check, including your driving record - you can only have had a maximum of two accidents over the previous three years
Have had no major driving violations in the previous five years
In addition to needing to have a car from 2010 or more recently, you won't be able to wrap Hummers, Jeep Wranglers, and Volkswagen Beetles from any year.
Where can you use Wrapify?
At this time, Wrapify is an option for those with cars in the following cities and metropolitan areas:
Atlanta
Dallas
Boston
Los Angeles
Miami
Minneapolis
Orange County
Orlando
San Diego
San Francisco
Potential applicants should know that applications to drive in a certain market are subject to availability and other factors. Generally, the more time you spend driving downtown, the more likely you are to receive a campaign offer.
How much does Wrapify pay?
While you're not going to get rich letting Wrapify advertise on your car, you can make some side income with virtually no effort. Every person actually earns a different amount on Wrapify, since it is dependent on the following factors:
How far your drive - the more you drive, the more you'll earn, since it increases the opportunity for others to see your advertisement
How "wrapped" your car is - whether you opted for the lite, a partial wrap, or a full wrap
These three options only differ on how much of your car is used for advertising.
According to the Wrapify website, you can expect to earn about $196-$250 per month for banners and partial coverage, and between $264-$452 per month for full coverage. You'll only get paid for driving miles within a campaign zone, which is usually within a 50-mile radius of the targeted city.
Mileage compensation can vary based on what time of day it is, as well as the number of people on the road. Check out this YouTube video about making money on Wrapify.
How to sign up for Wrapify
The best part is that getting started with Wrapify is incredibly easy to do. To get started, you're going to need to download the Wrapify app from either the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
After you've downloaded the app, you'll need to drive 50 miles, while allowing the company to track and understand where you drive (you must enable location services). This will help them to evaluate whether you are a good candidate to wrap your car, as well as for which company.
After this, it is as easy as receiving an advertisement campaign offer from the company. After you accept, you'll be asked to:
Accept the app's agreements and terms of service
Consent to and pass a background check
Capture and upload pictures of your car
Make an appointment to get your car wrapped - the app will show you locations near you
After your car is complete, you'll just continue driving around as you normally would!
It's that easy. Many people are serious about their privacy, given that the app requires you to enable location services. But in terms of personal information, you'll only need to provide your name, email, phone number, and date of birth to get started.
Also, keep in mind that it may take some time for you to get a campaign offer. It will depend on where you drive and how often, and while workers are apprehensive about this potential waiting period, many do note that it was worth the wait.
The vehicle wrapping process
Many that are interested in driving with advertisements on their cars are worried about the process of getting them placed on their car. Wrapify provides very clear directions about how to go about this and works with third parties that they have vetted.
Generally, you'll be asked to complete a car wash before showing up to your appointment.
The wrap will come at no cost to you, and the company will provide you reimbursement for expenses incurred to get home and then back to the facility to pick up your wrapped car.
Depending on the terms of the campaign that you agreed to, the wrap could remain in place for as long as twelve months.
Pros and cons of using Wrapify
Not every side hustle is going to be a good option for everybody, and that's okay. To help determine if wrapping your car is something you may be interested in, check out these pros and cons.
Pros:
You can make money without completing any extra work or changing your daily routine at all.
It is free to sign up and there are no ongoing costs.
Passive income for just driving around
Cons:
You'll make little or no money if you don't spend time driving in congested suburbs or downtown in cities
You are dependent on the app to track your mileage accurately
The only way to make more money is to drive more
Tips to boost your Wrapify pay
Now that we've covered the basics of the Wrapify program, we want to share a few insider tips and tricks that we've learned over the past couple of years from helping our readers out:
Take new routes around your city that have less traffic: If you are going to be running errands and forced to take your car out and about during peak times, you may consider taking surface roads instead of a backed-up highway, even if the route is a mile or two longer. Since you'll get paid based on the mileage you drive, you'll want to find a way to spend the least amount of time in traffic as possible to optimize your earnings.
Optimize your fuel economy: Since your actual net Wrapify earnings will be calculated after you deduct your fuel expenses, if you have multiple cars, you'll likely want to use the one that gets better gas mileage. This will directly improve your margins.
Wrap your whole car: If you've committed to wrapping at least part of your car with advertisements, it only makes sense to go the whole way, in our opinion. It will increase your pay rate and turn more heads out on the road.
Wrapify vs. Carvertise
I would be remiss if I wrote this entire article without mentioning the fact that Wrapify has competitors offering similar services. One such company is Carvertise. While their services and business models are largely the same, there is one notable change that you should be aware of.
Carvertise tends to pay its drivers a flat monthly dollar amount per month that your car holds advertisements. Of course, this is in contrast to Wrapify, which pays based on the number of miles you drive in a given month.
So, if you don't drive quite enough miles in a month to max out your earnings from Wrapify, Carvertise may be a good option for you.
Summary
Wrapify presents a great opportunity for those that live in or near cities to make a couple of hundred dollars per month without having to do any extra work. And while getting work through the app can occasionally be tedious depending on where you live, it nonetheless poses a great opportunity to passively add to your income.
